What is White Bear Flushing New York?
Foodies in the know don’t have to go overseas for a taste of the Shan Dong province of China. Located off the corner of Roosevelt Avenue and Prince Street in Flushing, New York, White Bear is a hole in the wall restaurant offering Shan Dong style wontons. The most popular dish is their boiled pork and vegetable wontons with hot chili oil, also known as the number 6. The wontons are filled with ground pork, minced cabbage and chopped scallions. Each order of twelve boiled wontons is topped with ground red chili powder infused chili oil, minced pickled mustard greens and chopped scallions. The wonton skin was soft yet didn’t fall apart, the wonton filling was well seasoned and the ground red chili powder infused chili oil added a smokey heat that balanced well with the salty sour pickled mustard greens. The boiled wontons at White Bear are a cheap eat and a must try.
